Game One Box Score | Game Two Box Score

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Providence College softball team was defeated by USF on Saturday afternoon in a BIG EAST Conference double header played at Raymond Field. USF (42-17, 16-4) posted a 5-4 win in game one and took game two, 5-1 over Providence (25-24-2, 8-12 BIG EAST).

The Bulls jumped out to a 5-0 lead and held on to defeat the Friars, 5-4, in the first game. Allison Savarese hit a three-run home run in the first inning to give USF a 3-0 advantage. The Bulls added a single run in the second and third innings and established a 5-0 edge. The Friars scored twice in the bottom of the third inning to make the score, 5-2. Junior Mary Rose Sheehy (Woodbridge, Conn.) singled to drive in one run, while sophomore Christy Becker (Atlanta, Ga.) drove in the other run with a fielder's choice. In the fourth inning, sophomore Jenna Garcia (Morro Bay, Calif.) singled to drive in a run, while Becker drew a bases loaded walk as the Friars trimmed the edge to 5-4.

However, Providence could not get any closer. USF pitcher Capri Catalano, who came in relief, held the Friars to one hit over three innings of action as she improved to 15-1. PC's Danielle Bertolette (Temecula, Calif.) pitched seven innings and recorded five strikeouts. Garcia had two hits, while Becker had two RBIs.

In the second game, USF took a 2-1 lead after three innings and never looked back en route to a 5-1 win. Trailing 1-0 after a half inning, Sheehy hit a single to left field to score sophomore Katelyn Revens (Warwick, R.I.), who led off with a single and stole second base. The Bulls took the lead for good in the third inning when Jo Jo Medina hit an RBI single to make the score, 2-1. USF added two more runs in the fourth inning and Courtney Mosch hit a solo home run in the fifth to complete the scoring.

Mosch earned the win as she pitched four-plus innings and struck out two batters. At the plate, she finished with two hits and one RBI. For the Friars, Revens had two hits and one stolen base, while Becker also had two hits.

The Friars are back in action on Sunday, May 4 when they host Louisville in a BIG EAST Conference double header beginning at 11:00 a.m. at Raymond Field.
