Providence Men's and Women's Cross Country Capture Season Openers at New Hampshire

PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- The 14th-ranked Providence College women's cross country team scored 15 points, sweeping the top-five spots en route to a first place finish at the New Hampshire Invitational on September 6 in Durham, N.H. The eighth-ranked men's team scored 24 points and also took first place.
The PC women captured the top-five spots and seven of the top-10 finishes to place ahead of New Hampshire (40 points), Maine (127 points) and Massachusetts (134 points). Senior Roisin McGettigan (Wicklow, Ireland) took first place with a time of 19:36. Other PC scorers included sophomore Mary Cullen (Sligo, Ireland), who took second place (19:39), graduate student Heather Cappello (Lockport, N.Y.), who finished third (19:45), senior Emer O'Shea (Limerick, Ireland), who took fourth (20:07) and junior Emily Tallen (Kingston, Ont.), who finished fifth (20:08).
The PC men were led by senior Adam Sutton (Preston, England) who finished in first place with a time of 24:02. Sophomore Pat Moulton (Pelham, N.H.) took third place (25:06), while his classmate Pat Guidera (Wellington, New Zealand) captured fourth place (25:16). Also scoring for PC was freshman Joe Dionne (Oshawa, Ont.) who finished seventh (25:40) and senior Tyler McCabe (Mystic, Conn.) who finished ninth. In all, the Friars had five runners finish in the top-10.
The PC cross country teams will compete next at the Dartmouth Invitational in Hanover, N.H. on Saturday, September 14 at 10:00.
